Like a lot of Beatles lovers I already owned every single Beatles album on compact disc but that didn’t deter me from buying the new Remastered Beatles In Stereo Box Set when it was released on September 9, 2009.
I had to hear what the talk was about. I wanted to hear if the recordings that I already loved so much could sound even more fantastic.
When my Beatles Remastered Stereo Box Set was delivered to my house, I was astonished at what I could hear. I could hear parts in the songs that I had never been able to hear before and I have listened to these albums hundreds (if not, thousands) of times previously.
I was shocked by how much more “warm” and how much clearer the songs sounded in The Remastered Beatles Stereo Box Set.
When you look into the technical details of how digital remastering works and the enormous advances that have been made in mastering music digitally since ‘87 (when the old Beatles CDs were released) it’s really not a surprise how much better these new albums sound.
In ‘87 they used 16bit/44kHz digital mastering technology and for the new stereo remasters they used 24bit/192kHz technology! What that essentially means is that more of the original tape sound is captured and put on the CDs. This is why the new CDs sound “more warm” than the 1987 ones.
The Beatles In Mono Box Set is an obvious “must have” for all real Beatles fans because many of us had never heard the original mono mixes before. But some may waver on the idea of buying all of the stereo mixes of The Beatles albums again. But I can tell you from my own experience that there’s not a single reason to waver. These new remastered stereo CDs are without a doubt worth buying.
These new stereo mixes are now the standard for the music of the greatest band of all time. These are the mixes people will be referring to when they talk about The Beatles albums from now on. Don’t you want to know what they’re talking about?
