You may think about trading in your old used car when you want to get a newer car. But lately more and more car dealers are refusing to take old cars as trade ins and if they do take them, they are not offering very good value. This is because they are finding it increasingly difficult to shift these cars. Because of the recession, sales of both new and used cars has slowed and dealers do not want to take in any more used cars.

Getting the best price for your used car may mean you will have to sell it yourself privately. You will more than likely get more money for your used car if you sell it privately. But in order to get a good price for your used car you will have to make sure your car is attractive to the buyer. A car that is in good condition and looks well will still fetch a good price no matter how old it is.

By making sure you check the aesthetics of the car first you can see if there is any major repair work that needs to be done. You should make sure that if possible you cover up any noticeable scratches that you may find. Replace anything that needs replacing such as cracked wing mirrors etc. The tyres on the car should be in good condition and if you want to make them look well, then you could give them a polish. Make sure that the car is clean both internally and externally and remove any unnecessary items from the boot of the car. Make sure the engine is in good condition and check the oil level. This can all help in your quest to get the best price for your used car.

When you think it’s time to look out for used cars, you are always better off trying to research your vehicles beforehand. Good research lets you find only the best models available. Once you’ve finished, you could find youself driving away from the dealers in a used nissan or even a used proton.
